Why Meet & Greets Are So Important Before Boarding Your Dog

One of the questions I get asked a lot is why I like to schedule meet-and-greets before boarding new dogs. The answer is simple — it helps make sure everyone feels comfortable, safe, and stress-free before your pet’s stay.

Every dog has a different personality, energy level, routine, and comfort zone. Meeting beforehand gives us a chance to get to know each other and helps me learn what makes your dog feel most at home.

Meet & Greets Help Dogs Feel More Comfortable

For many dogs, visiting a new place for the first time can feel overwhelming. A meet-and-greet allows them to:

  • Explore the environment
  • Smell around and get familiar
  • Meet me in a calm setting
  • Adjust before staying overnight

This can make a huge difference in reducing anxiety during their actual stay.

It Gives Pet Parents Peace of Mind Too

I know how important it is to feel confident leaving your pets with someone. Meet-and-greets give owners the opportunity to:

  • Ask questions
  • See where their pets will stay
  • Discuss routines and preferences
  • Talk about feeding schedules, medications, sleeping habits, and personalities

I want pet parents to feel comfortable and know exactly where their pets will be cared for.

Every Dog Is Different

Some dogs settle in immediately, while others need a little extra time and patience. During meet-and-greets, I pay attention to things like:

  • Energy level
  • Comfort around new environments
  • Separation anxiety
  • Social behavior
  • Stress signals
  • Special care needs

This helps me provide more personalized care during their stay.

Why Smaller In-Home Boarding Is Different

Unlike large kennel environments, I only take one family’s pets at a time for boarding. That means dogs get:

  • A quieter environment
  • More one-on-one attention
  • Flexible routines
  • A real home setting
  • Plenty of supervision and affection

For many dogs, especially anxious dogs or dogs used to sleeping near their owners, this setup can feel much more comfortable than a busy kennel.

Spring and Summer Are Busy Seasons

As we head into the warmer months here in Northeast Ohio, boarding requests start increasing quickly with vacations, weddings, graduations, and holiday travel coming up.

Scheduling meet-and-greets early helps make sure everything is ready before your trip dates arrive.

Final Thoughts

I truly love getting to know each pet and their personalities before their stay. Meet-and-greets are one of the best ways to help create a positive experience for both pets and their owners.

If you’re planning travel this spring or summer and are looking for personalized in-home pet care, I’d love to chat and see if we’d be a good fit.
